**About the role**:
Primary focus for the role is to:

- Provide strong leadership and support to achieve outcomes against the Wurreker Implementation Plan and Aboriginal Education Strategy at Melbourne Polytechnic;
- Drive the development, delivery and implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan for the organization
- Provide support engagement, wellbeing and educational outcomes for Aboriginal learners
- Strengthen collaboration with families and the broader Aboriginal community in Education decision making
- Enhance cultural competency through the provision of appropriate cultural safety and cultural education programs

**Duties**:
**Leadership**
- Coordinate and drive the ongoing development and operations of the Koorie Services Centre
- Support the KSC team to develop and coordinate an annual workplan to ensure that outcomes related to student engagement, retention and completion are achieved
- Lead and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal community members and Elders

**Financials**
- Review information and data to make sound business decisions that are financially justifiable, responsible and in accordance with Melbourne Polytechnic’s policies and procedures
- Monitor and analyse the monthly expenditure against the forecasted budget in conjunction with the Manager

**People Management**
- Develop a professional development plan in conjunction with the team to ensure the skills of staff are current and adequately address any skills gaps.
- Coach and monitor staff performance and manage any issues in line with Melbourne Polytechnic’s policies and procedures

**Student Management and Experience**
- Provide high level support to Aboriginal students to ensure they are provided with timely and culturally appropriate supports and referrals across the student life cycle.
- Work with the Student Life team to deliver a program of indigenous events and activities across the year; NAIDOC, Moodji Day, etc

**Community Engagement**
- Lead and develop the annual Wurreker Implementation Plan and report against its key achievements

**Skills and experience required**:

- Relevant qualifications and experience ideally within the education or Koorie organisational
- Demonstrated management experience including supervising staff and monitoring
- Strong Koorie community networks and connections to support desired
- High level written communication and report writing skills for both internal and external
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience of enhancing cultural competency and fostering cultural safety.
- Highly desirable: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement.
- A current Working with Children Check Card (Employee).
