**About the Role**:
The Student Wellbeing Adviser is the primary point of contact for all student welfare, distress, wellbeing enquiries and support services. The role will triage all student and staff enquiries, manage presenting issues within scope of expertise, refer to appropriate internal or external support services, provide comprehensive, general and referral service information in the areas of health, wellbeing, housing, welfare, financial, access and inclusion.

**Duties**:

- Act as the primary point of contact for all student welfare, well-being enquiries and support services for students. This involves managing issues within the scope of expertise and presenting issue, and determining the appropriate support required.
Assist Melbourne Polytechnic staff with initial response support, and conduct mental health and wellbeing assessments for students who present in high distress.
- Support the de-escalation of these situations and prioritise appropriate response Provide secondary consultation to the Melbourne Polytechnic community regarding student who present in distress, and appropriate support and referral options.
- Assess the immediate and ongoing student health, safety and wellbeing needs, including mental health and safety risk assessments, in order to identify appropriate support services.
- Assess the urgency of support required, as well as prioritisation of internal and external support service provision.
- Participate the in facilitation and delivery of Mental Health First Aid training across the organisation.
- Attend student orientation and information sessions to assist with the dissemination of information about the Student Wellbeing and Counselling Service to students.
- Develop and deliver briefing sessions/training programs/resources to support staff in responding to crisis situations, appropriate referrals and student welfare.
- Provide informed advice to students in the areas of health, well-being, housing, welfare, financial, access and inclusion.
- Work closely with other support staff to develop and coordinate activities and events relating to the health and wellbeing, diversity and social inclusion of all students.
- Collect and report on student data relating to usage of counselling and welfare support and the impact that intervention has had on the student’s progress as directed by Coordinator.
- Provision of support services to Student Complaints Liaison Officer ensuring the ongoing management of the complaints and appeals process, ensuring complaints and appeals are addressed in accordance with Institute policies and procedures.

**Skills and Experience Required**:

- Relevant degree and relevant work experience; or a suitable combination of lesser qualifications and relevant experience in the Community Services - Student Wellbeing/Welfare sector or related discipline.
- Experience in managing distressed or challenging behaviours and being able to work in high pressure situations.
- Highly developed organisational skills including the ability to plan, prioritise, monitor and evaluate delivery of programs in an educational/community support environment.
- Strong communication skills including excellent presentation skills, group facilitation, written, verbal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to manage own workload and adopt flexible work practices as required.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to quickly build rapport and work cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment.
- Ability to network and build relationships with clients and work with referral sources.
- Membership or eligibility for membership to relevant professional bodies such as AASW, APS or ACWA.
- A current Working with Children Check (employee).
- Drivers License.
