**About the role**:
To prepare, teach and evaluate a range of Learning Support programs with the focus on Literacy skills.

To assist the Program Coordinator in the establishment and maintenance of quality programs and systems to ensure a quality service is being provided at all levels of the department.

To maintain excellence and relevance in the delivery of Learning Support programs and related services for students. Demonstrated skills in flexibility in delivering one or more of a range of specialist areas across a range of funding sources that may be required by the department.

**Duties**:

- The development and teaching of Literacy programs together with the ongoing development of skills in one or more particular specialist areas and across a range of funding sources.
- Working closely with vocational teachers in a range of delivery modes to support students to achieve their course outcomes. This could include team teaching or support teaching with vocational teachers, delivering literacy workshops to students and developing online resources for students and teachers.
- Working closely with the staff from learning skill areas to ensure an integrated approach to the assessment of students’ literacy skills and the follow up support offered by learning skills.
- Assisting the Coordinator of Learning Skills in all related administrative and student functions - reports, enrolments, attendance updates, student progress and results and appropriate entry of data onto relevant Internet reporting systems.
- Keeping informed of educational developments and related government policies that will affect program delivery in the area of Learning Support programs or particular specialist areas or programs.

**Skills and experience required**:

- A current Working With Children Check Card (Employee).
- Appropriate post-secondary qualifications, relevant experience, a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and an approved course of teacher training relevant to the Unit’s teaching areas together with:
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning principles
- Demonstrated high standard of teaching practice
- Demonstrated knowledge of current national and state policies in education and training relating to Learning Support programs and, in particular, Literacy and Numeracy support for VET students and the issues these raise.
- Demonstrated understanding of the team-teaching model of literacy and numeracy support for VET teachers and the key factors involved in ensuring the ongoing viability of this program. Experience in working in a similar program is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, teaching methodologies and strategies appropriate to support programs in an adult environment and the ability to teach in a manner that influences, motivates and inspires students to learn.
