Sydney Eastern Suburbs, Australia Transurban Full time

Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.

About the role

We’re seeking an innovative and influential Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Lead to support our project team in driving positive safety culture and outcomes in the delivery of the M7-M12 Integration project - a high risk, complex and multidisciplinary project with multiple stakeholders and interfaces, operating on day and night shifts.

The M7-M12 Integration project includes enhancements to the M7 Motorway and the delivery of a new M7/M12 Interchange - a direct connection with the new M12 Motorway. A key contributor to the project, you’ll get the chance to shape Sydney’s west, easing congestion and creating a new link to the future Western Sydney Airport.

You’ll join an innovative team of industry leaders in transport, while working on one of the most exciting high-profile projects in the country. You’ll work in a team that encourages work life balance and supports your career progression through mentoring as well as learning and development opportunities.

As our WHS Lead, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

- Drive a positive WHS culture within the M7-M12 project team, Contractors, and all interfacing parties so that everyone has health and safety as their number one priority, ensuring the highest level of WHS outcomes.
- Provide monthly reporting on project delivery performance to Transurban and key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain Transurban WHS documentation relating to the project.
- Participate in Contractor Safety in Design and Workplace Risk Assessment Workshops.
- Monitor the Contractor's WHS performance and provide advice to the project team through weekly site inspections, monthly reporting, incident investigations, risk assessments and compliance to the Contractor's WHS procedures.
- Conduct a weekly toolbox talk for the project team with updates relating to the Contractor’s WHS performance, topics of interest, Transurban HSE updates and WHS matters.

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

- Significant senior level health and safety experience, ideally gained within a project/ construction environment, and with Contractor-side experience highly desirable.
- A tertiary qualification in safety, risk, or engineering with a sound technical approach.
- Strong skills in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of integrated Health, Safety, Environment management systems.
- Change management skills and a deep understanding of culture improvement programs and techniques.
- Effective leadership skills, the ability to consult and influence with exceptional communication and the capability to build strong and collaborative relationships.
- The ability to embed Transurban’s values of integrity, collaboration, accountability, ingenuity and respect throughout your work and interactions across the business.

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:

- A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year.
- 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well.
- Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests.
- Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more.
- Share offers and insurance benefits.
- Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days.

We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience - whether they work for us or not. We want to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe to express ideas, questions and concerns.
