**Your New Role**
Riawunna Centre for Aboriginal Education provides a culturally welcoming space and offers a wide range of educational supports, opportunities, and assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to support them to become independent, resilient, and confident learners. We are seeking to appoint an Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer to extend the services of the Riawunna Centre to the University of Tasmania’s Rozelle campus.
As the Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for engaging with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, organisations, and other service providers to develop meaningful and effective relationships that nurture community engagement, connectivity, and sense of “place”.
You will work in collaboration with the Student Life and Enrichment portfolio and University Colleges to ensure the inclusion of cultural activities in orientation programs and open days and you will assist colleagues to facilitate events under the Community Model.
Collaborating with other educational institutions you will promote higher education, university pathways and the Riawunna Centre and provide support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to gain access to study at the University of Tasmania. You will contribute to the delivery of Riawunna programs and cultural experiences that increase the visibility of Aboriginal people, history, and culture and assist Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to access scholarship opportunities, supplementary support services and cultural supports.

**What You’ll Need to Succeed**
With a strong understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, issues, and the impacts of these on Indigenous societies and cultures you will bring to the role the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and in a culturally informed and sensitive manner with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. With high level interpersonal and networking skills, proficient verbal, negotiation, and presentation skills you will have the capacity to build rapport and partnerships and engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisations and local Aboriginal people.
You will bring to the role knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector support mechanisms for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and recognise the importance of Aboriginal pathway programs for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student success. Being able to work effectively within a team as well as autonomously and having the ability to use discretion, initiative, judgement, and confidentiality will also see you succeed in this position.
This position is ideally seeking a member of the local Sydney/Eora community.

On offer is a 0.6fte, 2 year fixed term, HEO 4 role with a competitive remuneration package including 17% superannuation. **Remuneration**
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 4 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $83,807 comprising base salary within the range of $67,617 to $71,630 plus 17% superannuation.
