**The Youth and Family Services department at Banyule City Council sits within the Community Programs directorate. It provides a range of services to children, families, young people and community groups within the municipality. These services promote and support health, wellbeing and education and strive to build a connected and safe community.**

**About the Role**:
The Youth Engagement Officer is required to work as a senior member of Banyule City Council’s Youth Services team. Key functions of this position include:

- To participate in the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of core Council youth services, within a community building, youth engagement framework, using best practice principles and practices;
- Under the direction of the Youth Services Coordinator this position will facilitate the strategic planning, provision and delivery of all aspects of high-quality youth programs, individual support, activities and events for young people aged 10-25 years and their families.
- Amongst other responsibilities, you will potentially oversee the support, planning and implementation of Banyule Youth Services weekly LGBTIQA+ Rainbow Space group for young people who identify as LGBTQIA+ as well as associated events and activities.
- The role will routinely liaise with community stakeholders, organisations and services to ensure ongoing positive outcomes for local young people.

**Working hours are Monday & Tuesday 9.00am - 5.30pm and Thursday 11.30am - 8.00pm**

**Skills, experience and certificates**:

- **Tertiary qualifications in youth work OR related discipline and/or significant relevant experience.**:

- **Excellent verbal and written communication skills**:

- **Capacity to demonstrate an understanding of contemporary Youth practices, philosophy and program development and knowledge of Youth Work informed by ethical, developmental, community and strength-based principles and practices.**:

- **Demonstrated understanding of young people’s issues and the capacity to work effectively with young people, 10 to 25 years old in order to support these issues.**:

- **A sound understanding in working with complex young people and young people from diverse backgrounds including practical experience in assessment, intervention and support for young people experiencing crisis and challenge.**:

- **Experience in facilitating or delivering activities for young people.**:

- **Ability to network and develop productive partnerships.**:

- **Ability to exercise and understand duty of care to ensure safe and accessible events, programs and activities and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of young people and colleagues at all times.**
