THE ROLE OF A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER
Becoming a Correction Officer does not require previous correctional experience. As a Trainee Correctional Officer, you will undertake an 8-week program designed to assist you in developing the skills and understanding needed to contribute to the safe, secure and humane containment of prisoners. Duties include:
Maintaining the safety, security and good order of the prison including; all staff, partners, visitors, offenders and the facility
Supervision of offenders
Case Management - Contributing to and monitoring / reporting on prisoner rehabilitation activities, encouraging prisoners to establish goals and behaviours to begin engaging in positive change
Conducting daily searches and musters
Locating and removing illegal/restricted substances whilst undertaking searches
Maintaining confidentiality and privacy of all prison related activities
Managing inductions and transfers of prisoners
Assisting and supervising visitations
Writing comprehensive reports
Upholding the safety and security of all persons within the prison and of the prison itself

You must have 3 doses of the COVID-19 (triple vaccinated) in order to be considered for the recruitment process, or be willing to obtain in the early stages of the process.
The next 8-week Initial Training Course commences in August/September 2023.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Must be available to work 24/7 shift work (including nights and weekends)
Permanent Residency or Citizenship is required
Full Drivers Licence, or P2 Licence

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
G4S runs a thorough recruitment process for this role (up to 16 weeks), to provide as much exposure and understanding of the role as possible. You will go through a staged process and will be fully guided by our Talent Acquisition team. This includes:
An online, self-paced assessment
Group information session onsite at Port Phillip Prison
A face-to-face formal interview onsite at Port Phillip Prison

**Compliance checks including**: fingerprints and police check, physical and psychological medical checks and previous employment checks

You will be asked through this process to provide information on disclosable outcomes, prior employment, residential history for the purposes of clearance through Corrections Victoria.
