About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Policy Officer to join our team at the Department of Justice and Community Safety. As a key member of our Policy, Strategy and System Outcomes (PSSO) business unit, you will play a critical role in delivering policy projects and legislative reform for Corrections and Justice Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver policy projects and legislative reform for Corrections and Justice Services.
  • Develop and coordinate new legislative and policy proposals.
  • Prepare and coordinate detailed and complex advice, reports, and briefings.
  • Provide strategic legal policy advice to the Minister and DJCS Executives on key issues and priorities within the corrections system.
Requirements
  • Sound knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian government administrative processes, including Cabinet and legislative processes.
  • Previous experience in providing public sector policy advice.
  • Knowledge of current policy direction, research, and issues within corrections and the criminal justice system more broadly.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex operational, policy, and legal issues, interpret legislation, and provide appropriate legal or regulatory options.
