The recently established UNSW Institute for Climate Risk and Response (ICRR) brings together expertise from across the Faculties of Science, Business and Law and Justice. In partnership with industry, it will drive an innovative research agenda, and be a focus of debate on the risks and opportunities of our changing climate. As a leading voice in climate risk and response both nationally and in the Asia-Pacific it will inform end-users' risk management frameworks and allow robust planning regarding the impacts of climate change for business, government and policy makers.

The Institute Manager will work closely with the Institute Director, Chief Investigators and their teams, with colleagues in UNSW Science, Business, Law & Justice. The Manager is responsible for providing expert strategic and operational support for the Institute in meeting the Institute’s strategic objectives.

**About the role**
- **$130K - $138K** plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term - 3 years
- Full-time (35 hours per week)

The position will report to the Institute’s Director and have two direct reports. A number of casual research and administrative roles will report to the Institute Manager from time to time.

**Specific responsibilities for this role include**:

- Manage the day to day running of the Institute. This includes planning, managing and allocating resources to achieve goals, achieving key performance targets and the projected growth of the Institute;
- Manage, advise and report on the Institute’s activities including financial management, research, communications and marketing, internships and other activities, consistent with University and Faculty policies and procedures;
- Plan and co-ordinate the successful execution of the Institute’s engagement and outreach program including committees, workshops, major events, communications, marketing, journal publications, business development, and partnership management with all other UNSW stakeholders;
- Support the Institute’s researchers in delivering high quality research including developing grant proposals, project budgets, establishing contracts, coordinating research support resources, and tracking and reporting on progress, outputs and outcomes;
- Advance, develop and maintain research partnerships within UNSW, nationally and internationally, leveraging UNSW Faculty, External Engagement, Development, Insights Institute and Knowledge Exchange teams and other resources as necessary;
- Manage the day-to-day activities of Institute staff, including the development and evaluation of individual performance plans;
- Manage the Institute’s governance framework in line with UNSW’s policies and procedures (structures and processes, policies, information management, communications, monitoring, reporting, risks and issues) including the Institute steering, advisory and research committees and other UNSW stakeholders;
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of themselves or others within their area of responsibility.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Relevant tertiary qualification and extensive relevant management experience in an academic or similar large and complex environment, or an equivalent level of competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and proven ability to interpret financial data to provide strategic advice
- Proven skills and experience in strategic and resource planning, goal setting and project management
- Expertise in strategic contract consultation, strong negotiation skills and implementation with internal and external partners
- Extensive experience successfully leading and developing teams
- Superior communication skills and demonstrated high level interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated initiative with superior analytical and innovative problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
