SUE Manager

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Manager to join our SUE Services team Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is a branch of engineering that deals with mitigating risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction. We work closely with engineers and utility owners to help identify utility conflicts using an array of technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey, and vacuum excavation. Our work requires a high level of precision and technical ability.

This position is listed in the state of Maine, with the expectation of all interested candidates working out of our Brunswick or Biddeford offices

1. Review and manage day-to-day SUE operations to ensure the quality of the technical products & services are met.
2. Participate in weekly SUE group operations call.
3. Conduct thorough client communication both verbal & written.
4. Develop and monitor project scope, budget, and quality control for SUE projects from the proposal stage through final deliverables.
5. Plan SUE Crew schedules and coordinate with other departments to ensure the proper allocation of personnel and resources to meet project deadlines.
6. Supervise field activities of SUE crews to ensure SUE Manual, SOPs, accuracy, and standards are met.
7. Coordinate with local municipalities to obtain proper certifications and permits for SUE work in their jurisdictions.
8. Provide oversight and monitor SUE activities to ensure assignments meet performance goals.
9. Recruit, hire, manage, mentor, and retain staff necessary to build and maintain a local self-sustainable SUE operation.
10. Maintain and develop client relationships.
11. Coordinate safety efforts for SUE activities.
12. Network and collaborate with existing local PLS survey leads responsible for daily land surveying operations.
13. Identify and develop new business opportunities, leveraging existing clients and expanding into related survey and measurement services such as 3D laser scanning, mobile Lidar mapping, rail surveying, GPS, and conventional surveys.

1. 10+ years of experience in SUE, with 5+ years supervising SUE crews.
2. Proficiency in designating all utilities using surface geophysical equipment, including RF Pipe and Cable Locators, Penetrating Radar, and electromagnetic induction devices.
3. Extensive experience operating and maintaining vacuum excavation trucks.
4. Willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel.
5. Ability to generate revenue through existing client relationships and new business development.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Ability to meet tight deadlines.
8. Proficiency in English for understanding written and verbal job-related communications.
