Exciting PhD opportunity

Are you from a design or building background and looking to take your next step in research? The Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy* (CircAlloy) @ Deakin University is offering a fully funded PhD opportunity, as part of a vibrant and collaborative group focused on designing new alloys, processes and components that facilitate recycling and re-use.

This position (HDR10, 1 of 10 available) will focus on Design for recycling and re-use in construction. This project is embedded in real world practice, and you will have the opportunity to work alongside our modular construction partners, FormFlow and Rendine, to design processes and/or components that elongate the life-span of buildings by encouraging recycling and reuse. This might include areas such as products as a service, or buildings as material banks, in the context of steel modular housing design and construction.

We are seeking motivated, creative, and collaborative PhD candidates who are passionate about addressing global challenges through design, science, and engineering. This opportunity would be particularly suited to applicants interested in research underpinned by pragmatism, with a background and interest in digital engineering and architectural/product design

The successful applicant will be offered:

·Stipend: AUD $40,581 per annum (tax-free) for up to 3 years

·International candidates: Full tuition fee waiver (up to 4 years)

·Industry engagement through placements, co-supervision, and project collaboration

This project will be co-supervised by Prof. Jane Matthews and Ass. Prof. Matthias Weiss
