Transportation Program Management Director

The HDR Transportation Program Management Director role drives the strategy for and delivery of Program Management services to clients across HDR's Transportation Business Group (TBG). This position provides vision and direction for strategic planning and development of PM initiatives, implements Program Management quality control, and coordinates and grows Program Management staff.

Primary Responsibilities

• Drive the vision for growth in Program Management services.
  
• Implement and refine HDR's Program Management processes and systems.
  
• Coordinate staffing on relevant projects/programs within Transportation TBG.
  
• Provide oversight on large programs, including acting as lead or principal in charge when required.
  
• Assist and support strategic and tactical pursuits for large programs.
  
• Serve as the Program Management Business Class Director; develop and mentor staff in the Program Management Business Class and related fields (Project Controls, Procurement, Commercial Management, etc.).
  
• Develop the strategic growth plan, identify staffing needs, actively manage recruiting efforts, and establish metrics for program success.
  
• Direct efforts to utilize staff and enhance the overall success of Program Management services within HDR.
  
• Coordinate with the Company-wide Program Management Director and other Business Group PM Directors to optimize strategy, services, quality control, and client service.
  

The candidate must have experience leading and managing large Transportation Programs within HDR's current Market Sectors and possess a demonstrated ability as a program builder and mentor. Strong business development, presentation, and client advisory skills are essential. The role requires significant travel (often more than 50% of the time) and the ability to communicate effectively across HDR's matrix organization with Market Sector Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, and Operations leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management/Science, or equivalent; professional registration or PE license is a plus.
  
• 20+ years of experience with a strong background in leading transportation projects.
  
• Proven experience as a Program Manager on large delivery programs.
  
• Experience leading and managing PM staff; comfortable with substantial travel.
  
• Ability to manage multiple projects for a variety of clients.
  
• Strong leadership in multi-tasking, organization, teamwork, and problem solving; excellent interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to participate in high-level client presentations and communicate company capabilities.
  
• This position can be located in any HDR US office.
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or closely related field.
  
• Minimum of 10 years of project management experience working with external clients.
  
• Understanding of HDR business services and procedures.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with fact-finding experience.
  
• Active participation in HDR's employee-owned culture is a must.
