Description: About the Role

The Family Support Specialist will collaborate with families to empower them and build their capacity to make effective changes and overcome family challenges. The role is outreach-focused, engaging families in their homes and transforming initial engagement into a strong, ongoing partnership. Once engaged, the role will avoid practitioner-led assessments of family issues; instead, it will deliver interventions that increase family awareness and insight into their history and current challenges, enabling families to identify their key issues and lead their own change.

Duties

  1. Build parenting capabilities, skills, and knowledge to promote positive child-rearing.
  2. Facilitate structured family routines to improve household management, healthy eating, and quality family time.
  3. Support parental stress management and personal wellbeing, including coordinating access to ATSICHS Mental Health Services (Social Health Team).
  4. Ensure children meet developmental milestones by facilitating access to ATSICHS paediatric and Mums and Bubs medical services, including specialist allied health supports.
  5. Enhance family financial health by supporting meaningful employment and training opportunities.
  6. Improve school attendance and educational engagement among parents.
  7. Assist with Kindergarten enrolment and family participation in early childhood programs.
  8. Ensure family safety.
  9. Support stable housing and help families maintain tenancies.
  10. Reduce substance misuse issues.
  11. Promote family health through coordination of annual preventative health assessments at ATSICHS medical clinics.
  12. Enhance family dental health via coordination of annual dental check-ups at ATSICHS dental clinics.
