About the Opportunity
Due to growth and increased funding, we are looking for full-time and part-time (0.8 FTE) Domestic Violence Workers based in Cairns, QLD.
Reporting to the Senior Practitioner, you'll support victim-survivors through a combination of crisis intervention, safety planning, court support, and ongoing counselling. You'll work both in-office and onsite at Queensland Police Service (QPS) stations, helping vulnerable individuals access timely, trauma-informed care.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Providing crisis intervention including intake and assessmentOffering crisis counselling and ongoing DV counsellingAssisting at Cairns Domestic Violence Court with information and referralWorking closely with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) on improving the safety of victim-survivorsEngaging in group work and community educationMaintaining accurate and confidential records of client workTo read the full position description, please click here.
Your work will be critical in ensuring that victim-survivors feel safe, empowered, and supported through every stage of their journey.
About You
To qualify, you will need tertiary qualifications in behavioural or social sciences. While experience is preferred (especially for Level 5 SCHADS candidates), we also welcome applications from new graduates, as training and upskilling can be provided for the right candidates.

Crisis intervention and case managementCounselling and advocacyCommunity engagement experienceKnowledge of domestic violence dynamicsExperience working in culturally diverse settingsAs our ideal candidate, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Your ability to apply an intersectional lens and understand the gendered nature of violence will be critical to your success in this role.
