About you

You are passionate about purposeful work and excel at leading a team driven by a shared mission to make a meaningful impact. You are a strategic thinker who can see the big picture and advance the organization's work through thoughtful actions, opportunities, and strong relationships. You will be committed to tackling the stigma in young people around mental health and align with batyr's values: empathy, inclusivity, balance, positivity, and boldness.

About This Position

batyr is growing across regions and is recognized for its preventative and educational mental health work. The QLD/N-NSW State Manager will lead the development, support, and growth of the team and programs in the region, empower and mentor the team responsible for booking, staffing, and delivering batyr's programs, and strengthen university partnerships. This role will pursue funding opportunities and build strategic partnerships to enhance the region's reach and sustainability.

The State Manager will collaborate with other State and Program Managers to ensure nationally consistent, high-impact program delivery, streamlined operations, and effective communication between regional and national teams. You will balance guiding a high-performing team while working with the Partnerships Team to increase fundraising opportunities and ensure timely delivery against targets.

The State Manager will report directly to the Head of Programs. All candidates will need a current Working with Children Check and Police Check, or be willing to obtain these within one month of starting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Together with the Head of Programs, develop and implement a strategy to build batyr's presence across QLD/N-NSW, with measurable program delivery and expansion KPIs aligned to national goals.
  • Lead strategic relationship development and oversee partnerships with secondary schools, universities, TAFEs, community groups, youth services, and stakeholders in QLD and N-NSW.
  • Create and lead a high-performing, values-driven team and support day-to-day operations while fostering growth.
  • Drive operational excellence by embedding effective processes and supporting the team to deliver on KPIs and strategic goals.
  • Ensure the region's expenses align with the state budget.
  • Collaborate with Government Engagement Manager to foster relationships with state/local government bodies, councils, and PHNs.
  • Work with the Partnerships Team to identify and secure new funding opportunities and oversee related projects.
  • Oversee planning, execution, and reporting of funded projects in the region within timelines and budgets.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes and adjust strategies to drive impact and growth.
  • Represent batyr at events and meetings to raise awareness and build brand presence across QLD/N-NSW.
  • Manage recruitment and onboarding for new hires with support from the People Team.
  • Keep Head of Programs informed of program quality, achievements, challenges, and regional outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams, fundraising, budgeting, and program delivery with measurable outcomes.
  • Experience in mental health and/or education sectors; relevant tertiary qualifications.
