The Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) currently has a vacancy for an Analyst (APS 5 or 6) within the Market Operations Unit.

Work in the Market Operations Unit is mission-critical to the government financing task. Daily operations require working to strict deadlines to effect security transactions such as exchanging cash for bonds, meeting AGS interest and maturity payment obligations, and processing securitisation portfolio transactions. The Unit administers the retail exchange traded Australian Government Bond Facility and manages arrangements with various service providers.

The Market Operations Analyst will work with industry systems including Austraclear and Quantum, and interact with external contacts like the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Securities Exchange, and the Registrar. Responsibilities include conducting settlement activities, managing financial arrangements, supporting relationship management, and leading small projects related to new products or improvements.

Flexibility and responsiveness are vital, as tasks vary with priorities and may include:

  • Settling security transactions and corporate actions
  • Analyzing transactional and registry data
  • Liaising with service providers and responding to investor inquiries
  • Representing the agency at community and cross-agency levels
  • Managing relationships and risks for the registry arrangement
  • Using Excel, databases, Power BI, and other software to analyze and reconcile transactions

Qualifications: Degree in commerce, finance, banking, or a related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution is mandatory.

Experience: Experience in financial markets or treasury functions, especially securities settlement or operations, is desirable.

This position may be based in Canberra or Sydney.
