The Role

As a key member of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) team, the Wellbeing, WHS and Injury Management Advisor provides expert advice and services across diverse and complex work environments relating to workplace wellbeing, injury management and work health and safety (WHS). The role ensures compliance with the Public Service Act 1999, the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth).

This position plays a central role in strengthening the Memorial's health and safety culture through strategic, evidence-based, and person-centred initiatives focused on early intervention, psychological wellbeing, rehabilitation, and workplace safety. It supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems and processes that foster a safe, healthy, and supportive work environment.

The Wellbeing, WHS and Injury Management Advisor collaborates closely with business areas and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in the delivery of holistic and integrated services, including rehabilitation case management, early intervention programs, and injury prevention initiatives. The role also contributes to the ongoing maturity and alignment of the Memorial's rehabilitation management system.

The role reports to the Manager of Work Health and Safety and operates under broad direction.

This position will initially be filled for 12 months, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of legislation, codes of practice, and internal frameworks relating to WHS, wellbeing, and injury management in varied operational settings.
  • Lead the management of rehabilitation and workers compensation matters consistent with legislative frameworks to support employees achieve sustainable return to work outcomes.
  • Plan, develop and deliver rehabilitation and safety documentation including policies and procedures in alignment with the Memorial's needs and operating environments, and within the relevant management systems.
  • Lead and contribute to initiatives addressing psychosocial hazards, and early intervention to promote employee wellbeing.
  • In consultation with the WHS Manager, coordinate, develop and/or deliver a range of training and guidance to support the health and wellbeing of employees.
  • Work collaboratively and build sustainable positive relationships with stakeholders across the Memorial to deliver key objectives.
  • Use experience and expertise to inform, design and lead process and system enhancements on existing and emerging issues including psychosocial hazards and psychological wellbeing.
  • Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, and recommendations for internal committees and senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to build capability, support compliance, and drive a positive safety and wellbeing culture.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and maturity of the Memorial's rehabilitation and WHS management systems.

Position Eligibility

  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
  • All applicants external to AWM that are offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a National Police Check, even if they currently hold a security clearance. The check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
