Join one of Australia's largest and most respected company secretarial teams. At MUFG Pension & Market Services, we are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic General Manager, Corporate Governance to lead our 30-strong Corporate Governance team (previously known as Company Matters). This is a rare opportunity to take a strategic leadership role in a business with a strong reputation for excellence, deep client relationships, and meaningful impact.

About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, Corporate Markets ANZ, you will drive the implementation of the Corporate Governance business strategy, oversee financial and operational performance, and play a key role in shaping our client offering and market profile.

As General Manager, you'll take ownership of strategic client development and growth, identifying new opportunities and expanding our service offering. You'll need to be equally comfortable providing hands-on support to clients and team members, while also setting a strategic and commercial direction for the business.

What You'll Do

Strategic Focus & Growth

  • Define and execute a strategy to grow the Corporate Governance business
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with new and existing clients
  • Identify opportunities for new products, service lines, jurisdictions, or sectors
  • Elevate the business's external profile through thought leadership and market engagement
  • Monitor the quality and profitability of workflows and services

Operational & Financial Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring effective and profitable service delivery
  • Manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Adapt and refine service models in response to market and client needs

People Leadership

  • Lead, support, and inspire a team of experienced governance professionals
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive team culture
  • Strengthen internal relationships across MUFG to support cross-functional initiatives

Governance & Risk

  • Provide sound and practical corporate governance advice
  • Attend client Board and Committee meetings as required
  • Oversee matters relating to the Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules, and market practice
  • Ensure appropriate risk management and technical oversight across engagements

About You

We're looking for a commercially minded leader with a blend of technical expertise, client service excellence, and a passion for growing a business.

You will bring:

  • Degree qualified in Law, Business, Communications, Commerce, or a related field
  • Unrestricted Practising Certificate
  • 10+ years of professional services and/or consulting experience working as a lawyer, company secretary, and/or in senior finance, strategy, or legal-related roles
  • Excellent technical skills in the Corporations Act and ASX Listing Rules
  • Action and results-focused, with a high level of planning and a proven ability to manage multiple in-flight projects
  • Strong influencing skills with the ability to facilitate consensus and secure stakeholder buy-in
  • Critical thinking and strong people management focus
  • Understanding of the professional services model, with experience adapting the business model to support growth and market change
  • Experience setting strategic direction and a clear vision for a team
  • Strong awareness of ANZ and global governance trends
  • P&L or budget management experience
