The opportunityCSIRO is seeking an experienced Employee Relations/HR Complex Case Specialist with demonstrated expertise in workplace investigations and complex case management to join the Workplace Relations team. In this role, you will manage the end-to-end process of sensitive matters, including misconduct, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
Reporting to the Case Management Manager, you will draw on your formal training in workplace investigations and HR to plan, scope, and conduct investigations that are procedurally fair, thorough, and well-documented. Your ability to analyse evidence, prepare clear investigation reports, and provide practical recommendations will be critical. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills will enable you to guide leaders and employees through complex resolution processes with confidence and professionalism.
Experience within government or large, complex organisations will be highly regarded, as you work to uphold CSIRO's workplace standards and foster a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
Your high-level duties will include:- Lead and manage complex workplace investigations into misconduct, bullying, harassment, discrimination and other sensitive matters, ensuring fairness, confidentiality and alignment with CSIRO values.
- Undertake evidence-based analysis and prepare clear findings and recommendations, providing accurate, risk-focused advice to senior management.
- Collaborate with Centres of Excellence and key stakeholders across CSIRO to draw on subject matter expertise and support effective resolution of cases.
- Maintain accurate records and case documentation throughout the lifecycle, ensuring timely administration, reporting, and confidential communication with all parties.
- Support the Manager, Case Management in assessing and recommending appropriate courses of action for complex people matters.
- Model professionalism, integrity and respect by upholding CSIRO's Code of Conduct, values, and diversity and safety commitments in all work.
Location and office arrangements: Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide or Hobart. Hybrid working available. Other CSIRO locations may be considered.
Salary: AU$114,219 – AU$123,605 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bringEssential Criteria
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Human Resource Management, Business Management, Industrial Relations, Employment Law, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications desirable.
- Specialised workplace investigation qualifications and at least five years' experience conducting workplace or regulatory investigations, ideally within government or large complex organisations.
- Proven ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, policies, and guidance in ambiguous situations, supporting management through complex and sensitive people matters.
- Strong judgement, independence, and risk-based decision-making in handling complex cases.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including influencing, negotiation, and managing sensitive or high-conflict situations with professionalism.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and fostering respectful, collaborative workplace behaviours.
