The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) is seeking an accomplished Head of Event Operations to lead the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of large-scale temporary infrastructure and services for the Melbourne Cup Carnival (MCC) and other high-profile events at Flemington Place.

This is an exceptional opportunity to take ownership of complex, high-value projects that contribute to the delivery of world-class events recognised on a global stage.

Overview

Role: Head of Event Operations, reporting to senior leadership, responsible for end-to-end event planning, delivery, safety, and governance for large-scale events at Flemington Place including MCC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end planning and successful delivery of all events and associated services, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of contractors and suppliers, fostering strong partnerships to achieve operational excellence.
  • Work with internal support services to ensure risk assessments are completed.
  • Collaborate with senior internal stakeholders, sponsors, and event partners to align event delivery solutions with strategic objectives.
  • Provide inspiration and leadership to an enthusiastic and capable operations team during planning and live event operations, ensuring seamless execution and rapid response to emerging challenges.
  • Champion safety, compliance, and sustainability throughout all event phases.
  • Participate in Club-wide strategic direction and leadership.
What You'll Bring
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale event operations.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate contracts, manage budgets, and deliver cost-effective outcomes.
  • Exceptional leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Understanding of the work and flexibility requirements of the event management industry including out of hours demands.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills and the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to understanding and maintaining the highest safety, compliance, and quality standards. This will include experience in emergency management and business continuity planning.
