Operations Manager
Act for Peace is a dynamic humanitarian aid and development agency. This is a permanent full‑time position (0.8 FTE may be considered) based in Sydney CBD with hybrid work options.
In this role, you will ensure Act for Peace has the processes, facilities, technology and equipment required to run efficiently and effectively so that everyone is empowered to bring their best. You will manage the functions of HR, technology, operations and office management, and you will provide high‑level support to the Board, CEO and COO. This is a fast paced, hands‑on and diverse role that requires energy, initiative, attention to detail, service, relationship management, stakeholder management, proactive organization and problem‑solving skills. The successful candidate will bring high‑level operational management experience and an intuitive, curious and collaborative mindset.
Responsibilities- Ensure the processes, facilities, technology and equipment required to run efficiently and effectively are in place.
- Manage the functions of HR, technology, operations and office management.
- Provide high‑level support to the Board, CEO and COO.
The Operations Team is responsible for the efficient and effective operations and operational performance of the organisation, across Finance, Human Resources, Administration, Facilities Management, Information Technology, Compliance, Governance, Reporting and Risk Management. The Team works closely with other Teams and partners to enhance collaboration, creativity and trustworthiness, providing advice and supporting other Teams to operate effectively and identifying opportunities and implementing solutions for continuous improvement.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience – Selection CriteriaEssential
- Demonstrated solid experience working as an Operations Professional
- Relevant qualification in business administration or related discipline
- Strong administrative and planning skills, with attention to detail and problem solving
- Experience in development and implementation of HR initiatives and processes, including HRIS
- Experience in office management
- Supporting Company Secretary and Board with high level administrative tasks
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and other task management software
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team and take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
- Strong interpersonal skills with professionalism in person, on the phone, online and in writing
Desirable
- Experience updating and improving efficiencies of administrative and operational processes
- Experience leading development of integrated IT solutions
- Experience in compliance audits, monitoring and reporting
- Experience in the international development/NGO sector
Internal: Act for Peace Board, Leadership Team and staff. External: Consultants, service providers, strata, ACFID.

- Willingness to travel (to Melbourne) and work outside standard hours as reasonably required
- Hybrid working arrangement with majority of days in Sydney office

- Act for Peace takes safeguarding seriously, including child protection and prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
- Employment is conditional upon the outcome of Australian National Police background checks and other required country checks.
- Working with children check may be required.
