About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Regional Manager Operations will lead a team to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of rail haulage services across the regional Northwest NSW portfolio.

Accountable for leading and developing a large operational team focused on operational excellence and safety, that consistently meets and exceeds customer expectations and business objectives.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and overseeing operational execution in one of Pacific National's largest and complex regions.
  • Designing and implementing regional operational strategies to enhance safety, service performance, and efficiency.
  • Building and maintaining operational relationships with customers to support business strategy, growth, and operational success.
  • Developing leadership capability and fostering a culture of collaboration across the business.
  • Driving key initiatives to improve efficiency, resource utilization, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Engaging with regulatory bodies, external partners, and unions to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  • Managing workforce planning to ensure resources are in place to meet customer demand.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have proven leadership experience in a complex operational environment. You will be a strategic thinker with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

In addition, to be successful in this role you will need:

  • Experience in managing complex operations, ideally in freight or heavy industry.
  • The confidence and ability to have challenging conversations.
  • Strong understanding of planned operations and service delivery.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive performance, and foster an engaged workforce.
  • Excellent contract management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills and a high degree of initiative.
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field advantageous.
