Overview
Our Independent Visiting service is looking for volunteers in or near Walsall.
- Are you passionate about helping young people?
- Do you have 2 to 4 hours to spare once a month?
- Are you ready to make a long-term, regular commitment?
If you answered yes and want to support a child or young person in the care of their local authority, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
Become an Independent Visitor
We seek fun, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are interested in making a difference in young people's lives.
You will choose activities with your young person, such as going to the cinema, bowling, playing football, dining out, riding bikes, or walking in a park. We will match you with a child sharing similar interests.
No prior experience working with children is required—just an interest in their development and welfare. Full training and support are provided.
Here are some of the young people waiting for a volunteer:
- Amy (12): Lives with an older carer; interested in sports.
- Brad (13): Lives in residential care; enjoys outings and fun activities.
- Cassie (16): Recently moved; wants help building confidence and exploring the area.
- Danny (11): Lives with foster carers; interested in parks, aeroplanes, and animals.
- Emma (9): Lives in a busy household; wants to spend quality time on her own.
The Application
- Volunteering mainly occurs on weekends and after school hours.
- A commitment of at least 24 months with one visit per month is required for stability.
- Complete the Personal Statement on the application form, sharing about yourself; it is part of the shortlisting process.
