Overview

We are looking for a Strategic Projects and Programs Leader to guide major initiatives under our Organisational strategy, to promote and grow the multiple use benefits of State Forests. This role combines strategic thinking with creative flair—a leader who can design innovative solutions, engage diverse communities, and balance environmental, cultural and commercial outcomes.

The Opportunity

As Strategic Projects and Programs Leader, you'll drive major initiatives across forest health, Aboriginal Partnerships, tourism, land development and community engagement. You'll lead projects from concept through to delivery, working closely with our Country and Community team and Regions, ensuring planning, environmental assessments and stakeholder needs are fully integrated. The role includes representing FCNSW with government, industry and community partners, providing policy advice, and at times deputising for the Senior Manager Country & Community. Organized travel across NSW is part of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Drive major initiatives across forest health, Aboriginal Partnerships, tourism, land development and community engagement from concept through delivery.
  • Lead projects with integrated planning, environmental assessments and stakeholder needs.
  • Represent FCNSW with government, industry and community partners; provide policy advice and deputise for the Senior Manager Country & Community when required.
  • Travel across NSW to connect directly with the regions and communities your work supports.
We would love you to have/be
  • Tertiary qualifications in natural resource management, environmental science, planning or a related discipline.
  • Solid knowledge of forest management, land use, or environmental assessment practices.
  • Experience managing large, multi-stakeholder projects with internal teams and external partners.
  • Creative flair and strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into engaging strategies, reports and community messaging.
  • Proven cultural awareness and experience engaging with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills with government, regulators, industry and communities.
  • Ability to balance commercial, social and environmental outcomes in a complex operating environment.
  • Capacity and willingness to travel, manage multiple priorities, and maintain fitness as required.
About the role details

As described above, with responsibilities spanning strategy development and on-the-ground engagement. You'll work with the Country & Community team and Regions to ensure alignment across planning, environmental assessments and stakeholder needs. You will travel across NSW to engage directly with the regions and communities your work supports.
