We are looking for a capable and energetic Manager Data Governance for a new role that will set up the right Data Governance capability in the IT Division at Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

About the role

The Manager Data Governance is a newly formed role that will lead the activation of the DCCEEW data and digital data strategy and Data Governance Framework. It will give data policy advice, guidance and assistance to embed data governance and align data management practices across the department, support open government and digital transformation initiatives, and improve data capability, maturity and quality. The role will oversee the design and implementation of a governance model that accommodates the diverse data management requirements across the department.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage the design, implementation and maintenance of a principles-based data governance model to ensure compliance with the department's Information and Data Governance Framework, model, policies, standards and guidelines in line with data management practices and ethical principles.
  • Lead the development and implementation of standard dataset procedures, data governance tools and processes in conjunction with business owners and data custodians to accommodate the diverse requirements across the department and build stakeholder confidence.
  • Lead engagement with subject matter experts in privacy, records and security management to embed. data governance by design in the department and ensure that best practice data management tools and techniques are shared across the organisation.
  • Develop departmental policies, standards, and guidelines for data management, to govern appropriate and ethical use of data and define an overall strategy of master data management that supports the development and secure operation of information and digital services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to drive effective and consistent information and data governance practices and support uplift in data capability, maturity and quality across the department.
  • Lead the process to improve data practice, capability and maturity among data custodians and stewards to support the delivery of high-quality, effective, trusted, and compliant data.
  • Oversee the proactive release of data to improve open and shared data practices in line with NSW Government data-sharing guidelines and to support open government and digital transformation initiatives.
