About The Role
Join Suncorp's Disaster Management team and play a key role in forecasting weather impacts to support our customers and communities through Australia's most challenging events. Reporting directly to our Severe Weather Experienced Meteorologist, you will receive mentoring, guidance, and ongoing upskilling opportunities to develop your forecasting expertise. In this role, you'll monitor, analyse, and communicate weather developments, contributing to preparedness, response, and recovery strategies across the business. You'll work closely with disaster management specialists, operational teams, and external partners to provide accurate and timely information that helps keep people safe and informed.
- Assist with monitoring, analysing, and summarising observational, forecast and warning products related to severe weather, thunderstorms, flooding, fires, and tropical cyclones.
- Support the development of hazard-based outlook products that provide lead time ahead of significant hazards impacting business, operational and customer functions.
- Contribute to the collation of flood analytics and assist with interpreting hydrological data under supervision.
- Support the communication of significant weather and natural hazard risks across short, medium, long, and seasonal timeframes to inform Disaster Management operations and broader business awareness.
- Assist in producing insight packs and scenario modelling to inform customer impact assessments and support a coordinated approach to event escalation pathways.
- Coordinate insights and data inputs to enhance customer impact assessments and support structured event escalation during natural hazard events.

More Specifically, You Will

- Degree or near completion in Meteorology, Hydrology, Geography, Environmental Science or similar
- Basic understanding of Australian weather systems, flood modelling, and climate data
- Effective communication and organisational skills
- Interest in disaster management, insurance, or emergency services
- Experience using weather mapping tools or data platforms (e.g. BoM, ArcGIS, Excel, Tableau)
- Knowledge of climate science, rainfall/flood forecasting or alert systems
- Previous internship, research project or exposure to insurance, emergency response or public safety fields
