About You

This position is the discipline leader in best practice in provision for students with disability in inclusive education.

The role develops relationships with key stakeholders including staff from Colleges and Schools and with a range of other internal and external colleagues, providing advice and liaison to support capability development, systemic change, and enhanced practice.


The position will effect organisational change through the University's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Framework (due to be published early 2023) with a focus on students with disability, by providing strategic support and advice to all areas of the University as well as being a member of the RMIT Accessibility Working Group and DDA Compliance Project Control Group.


The Manager provides financial management of the Unit, contract management with external disability service providers and has primary responsibility for the University's relationships with governments pertaining to disability support funding.

The role also provides high-level advice on particularly complex student matters.


The Manager uses expertise in the field to manage projects and to conceptualise creative solutions to problems of substantial complexity and sensitivity.

The Manager requires high level conceptual skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders both within and beyond RMIT.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

  • Demonstrated high-level of skill and considerable experience in senior management, including people and financial management accountability and ability to provide high quality advice and deliver outcomes through leading an effective, collaborative work team, demonstrating effective project management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in disability and equal opportunity practice in a large and complex organisation, with the proven capacity to draw upon related skills and expertise to develop and deliver equity programs that are targeted and responsive.
  • Highlevel conceptualisation and planning skills with a proven ability to identify current and emerging issues affecting students with disability, provide advice to a range of stakeholders, and drive innovation to respond to these issues within the Equitable Learning Service and the broader University.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow partnerships and liaise effectively and strategically with internal and external stakeholders, colleagues and communities to achieve objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to communicate, consult, engage, negotiate and influence effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders, partners and people.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, inclusion and reconciliation.
About the Portfolio


The Education Portfolio is headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education and Vice President who leads the planning and implementation of the University's strategies related to RMIT's academic programs and the RMIT student experience.

The Portfolio is responsible for services to support the quality of RMIT programs, including the professional development of academic staff, continuous improvement of the student experience, learning and teaching outcomes and the management of learning and research information sources.


The Education Portfolio plays a key role in empowering students to access education, participate actively in the life of the University and achieve successful and fulfilling lives beyond graduation.

The provision of a stimulating and satisfying experience for students is a priority for the University.
