UGL's utilities business undertakes essential design & construction services for critical infrastructure in the power and water sectors. Our end-to-end delivery ranges from transmission lines, switchyards, substations, electrical distribution through to water and wastewater treatment plants and water pipelines.

Our expertise includes the design, construct, commission, operate and maintain where our Utilities Team safely leads and delivers design & construct projects across Australia. Our project delivery extends to include short and long-term contracts either through self-performance works, working with Sub-contractors or through Joint Ventures. Our work spans from the engineering design through to structural, civil, electrical installation works and commissioning.

The opportunity

The position provides advice, assistance, guidance, and support to project line management on all safety, health and environmental issues relevant to the project.

Key Responsibilities:

· Providing advice and support to the HSE Manager for the implementation and auditing of the Safety, Health and Environment Management Plans

· Provide HSE advice and support across a wide range of stakeholders across all sites and projects

· Identify and develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and leaders across all sites and projects

· Implementing and communicating of compliance requirements for the UGL Safety Procedures and work standards/practices

· Develop and embed policy, standards and systems and business initiatives across all sites

· Develop fit for purpose systems using technology to enable work

· Mentor and coach in the application of the Safety Management System in the field

· Reviewing project related incident reports for accuracy, satisfactory investigation and appropriate recommended actions

· Conduct investigations utilising ICAM methodology and provide information on incidents via reports and presentations that focus on organizational learning

· Understand and stay current in leading HSE practices, legislation, regulations, and obligations and bring new and innovative ideas to UGL

· Maintain and understudy all reporting functions with the HSE Manager

· Reviewing all project activities, work practices and procedures for continuous improvement in safety health and environment aspects

· Conducting and review site induction training for all UGL and subcontractor personnel

· Providing assistance to all levels of Leadership and workers in risk identification and job hazard analysis

· Monitor review and mentor safety compliance through assurance activities, inspections and observations of the workplace

· Review and maintain filing system for safety and related documentation

· Maintains and reports safety performance statistics (incidents, manhours, frequency rates), identifying trends and implementing corrective actions

· Identifies needs for safety training and coordinates sessions/courses for site personnel

· Attending site operational meetings reporting on safety performance status

· Monitoring compliance with the requirements as detailed in the Safety Activity Planner across multiple project sites

· Monitoring compliance to specified procedures, safe work standards and statutory requirements

· Assessment of risks and hazards involved in tasks, and methods to manage the hazards in order to prevent incidents, injury and damage

Safety requirements:

· Ensure compliance with all UGL HSEQ policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements

· Be familiar with and understand the importance of UGL Critical Risk Controls and ensure these are followed at all times

· Undertake all responsibilities in a safe manner

· Ensure a safe working condition is present for all employees, contractors and visitors

· Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems such as job safety analysis, pre-work checklists and risk assessments

· Comply and have input into safe working procedures

· Report hazards, incidents and accidents within company guidelines

· Actively participate in safety training

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in knowledge of HSE legislation and regulation in the utilities, construction, energy, oil and gas, mining or related heavy industry.

· Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent relevant qualification

· Lead Auditor qualifications in ISO 45001

· ICAM Lead Investigator

· Experience within a similar role in the Industrial/Construction environment.
