What will you do?


The Workplace Management Team at
AISNSW supports principals of independent schools in NSW in managing complex and sensitive compliance issues that arise within their schools.

The Workplace Management Team takes a problem-solving integrated approach to assisting schools to identify best practice options and flexible solutions in response to the challenges they face in relation to employment relations, work health and safety and child protection matters.


What qualifications and experience will you need?

  • Legal qualifications and practicing certificate are desired but not required, may be working towards legal qualifications.
  • Certificate III in Investigative Services or equivalent is desired.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in employment relations and/or industrial relations.
  • Exposure to the education sector or member associations will be an advantage.
  • A current Driver's licence.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Provision of advice and support to member schools primarily in the areas of employment relations and industrial relations but also work, health and safety, child protection and/or education law.
  • Researching and interpreting the legislative regime in which independent schools operate including providing the team with updates to the current industrial landscape.
  • Assisting in the development of draft policies and procedures to assist schools to comply with legislation and encourage best practice in all areas of risk and compliance.
  • Assisting member schools in the drafting, voting up and lodgement of sector wide multienterprise agreements and single enterprise agreements.
  • Delivering presentations and training to member schools.
  • The conduct of workplace investigations (requires a Practicing Certificate or equivalent).
  • Other duties as required by the Chief Executive.

What skills and attributes will you have?

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
  • The capacity to manage multiple and competing demands in a professional, member servicebased environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial relations and workplace law and compliance requirements.
  • Experience or interest in developing knowledge and skills in the areas of work health and safety, child protection, reportable conduct, family law and duty of care.
  • Experience and willingness to deliver professional learning to staff in schools.
  • Capacity for problem solving approach to complex matters and the development of options for resolution.
  • Welldeveloped research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills including maintain records.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite, in particular Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
