Are you looking for an awesome place to work, where you can proudly be your authentic self, and be part of #oneteam?

This crucial role represents a remarkable opportunity for an accomplished leader specialising in risk and compliance within the Energy or Telecommunications sectors.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the General Manager of Consumer Revenue, you will spearhead the development and management of the Vocus Consumer risk and regulatory compliance strategy. This includes ensuring adherence to all relevant federal and state regulations, as well as internal policies, while maintaining a balance between risk, compliance, and commercial objectives.

Utilise your deep understanding of all relevant Energy and Telecommunications regulatory requirements to partner with the legal and regulatory teams to educate business owners and their teams on the regulatory requirements in their part of the business; and work collaboratively with business owners to ensure operational readiness for 'new' or 'changes' to regulatory requirements, or product features.

Leading a small team, and with a broad remit - this role is both strategic and hands-on in nature. Key to success will be to develop and roll-out operational risk management frameworks and processes that enable business stakeholders to support compliance and accurately self-serve regulatory decisioning where possible while providing strong risk and compliance-based governance reporting to the Executive team and Board.

What you'll be doing day-to-day

  • Building, leading and developing a Risk & Compliance team.
  • Develop capability within the team to ensure continuous succession planning and eliminate key person dependence.
  • Work collaboratively with business stakeholders to identify, design, build and implement process and system controls to drive compliance with Regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare reporting and guidance for the Board of Directors and Senior Management as necessary to ensure that they meet their Risk Management responsibilities and obligations.
  • Provide independent reports to the Board Audit Committee and Risk Management Committee about the progress of Risk Management in the division.
  • Evaluate operational policies and procedures to achieve the identified Risk Management objectives and recommend improvements where necessary. Introducing new technology, improved Risk Management techniques and approaches to assist risk identification, measurement, and control.
  • Facilitate and coordinate business unit documentation of operational policies and procedures to improve risk posture and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor the progress of risk management processes on existing and new projects/activities undertaken by the organisation.
  • Design, build, implement and run a 'self-audit' process to test processes / systems to ensure compliance with regulatory instruments.
  • Work collaboratively with the Legal team and business owners to execute on reporting and ad hoc tasks required by governing bodies.
  • Educate the business owners and their teams on the regulatory requirements in their part of the business.
  • Work collaboratively with business owners to ensure operational readiness where there are 'new' or 'Review a changes' to regulatory requirements or new initiatives launching.
  • Review and provide feedback on business policies and process documents for compliance adherence.
  • Support the business to respond and provide feedback on new proposed Regulatory instruments or policy.
  • Represent the Retail Division in regulatory related forums, workshops, and meetings where required.
  • Prepare monthly reporting for Monthly Business Reviews.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of the political, cultural, and economic environment the organisation is operating in, with particular regard to identifying risk and potential risk.

What you'll bring to this role

  • Extensive experience leading a Risk & Compliance team in the Energy or Telco industry.
  • Expert knowledge of all relevant Telecommunications and Energy regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to implement processes and system controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Considerable experience implementing self-risk audit processes into a multi-layered organisation and educating and partnering with business stakeholders to improve understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • The ability to implement processes and system controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the impact of change both from an organisational and people perspective, including offshore environments.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills coupled with strong outcomes-based stakeholder influencing skills.
