About the role:

This position can be located in either Sydney or Melbourne.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing rail engineering governance practices on John Holland projects, evaluating related business risks, and formulating effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Providing a rail engineering assessment and consulting service, utilizing internal and external resources to address engineering challenges throughout the rail asset lifecycle (e.g., tenders, project delivery, operations, and maintenance).
  • Keeping abreast of advancements and technological shifts in the rail sector, positioning the Rail Business Group to capitalize on opportunities while acknowledging constraints and risks.
  • Enhancing and optimizing internal rail engineering procedures and processes, ensuring clear communication, comprehension, and efficacy.
  • Leading the Rail Engineering team in meeting the business's engineering needs and supporting the professional growth objectives of rail discipline engineers in the division.
  • Developing and implementing a rail engineering capacity that aligns with future engineering competency standards, in accordance with projected business growth strategies and plans.
  • Assessing existing engineering governance processes and methods, and implementing appropriate enhancements to improve transparency, effectiveness, and efficiency.

To excel in this critical position, you should have:

  • Degree in (Civil or Mechanical or Electrical) Engineering meeting or exceeding AQF Level 7
  • Certificate III or higher in Systems Engineering practices and procedures
  • Over 10 years of experience in railway operations and/or maintenance.
  • Over 10 years of experience in designing and constructing integrated railway system projects
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and leadership capabilities.

What's there for you?

We're all about aligning your purpose with ours. We acknowledge that your career is a significant means to influence the world. Moreover, we are committed to supporting you as a complete individual, not just an employee.

We recognize and support our team members in numerous ways. It starts with providing flexibility in work preferences. From generous leave policies to well-being support and relationship assistance, your requirements are central to our employee benefits.

We provide:

  • Competitive compensation with salary continuance and salary sacrifice options.
  • Excellent leave perks including 18 weeks of paid parental leave with superannuation and up to an additional 18 weeks of superannuation on further periods of unpaid parental leave, multicultural leave exchange, and two extra days to prioritize your well-being.
  • Advancement opportunities supported by our exciting project lineup, ensuring you get to contribute to iconic projects that shape cities and communities.
  • Lifelong learning and development prospects where you'll have access to emerging talent programs, build your career through defined pathways, and access technical as well as leadership training and development opportunities.
  • Inclusion, diversity, and equality are integral to our work culture. It's crucial to us that every individual at John Holland feels like they belong – that's why we're dedicated to cultivating a more inclusive environment, supported by a comprehensive inclusion strategy across the organization to drive meaningful change. We have active employee resource groups that uphold our commitments, including those related to gender equality and reconciliation.
  • Customized flexible work arrangements because we understand that flexibility means different things to different individuals. Whether it's flexible hours, parenting flexibility, additional leave options, varied shifts, or alternative work structures, we are committed to assisting our team members in achieving work-life balance.
