About the Project


Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by Western Sydney Airport Co as its Delivery Partner for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales.

This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia and is due for completion at the end of 2026.


About the Role


As the Rail Interface Manager you will be a key contributor for the Delivery Partner and to the success of this project.

Balancing the practical demands of ongoing construction and design activities with commercial awareness, the Rail Interface Manager is responsible for coordination of Western Sydney Airport (WSA) Project activities relating to the Sydney Metro rail interface, including:

  • Act as the key point of contact and liaison on all matters for Bechtel and client teams related to Sydney Metro activities.
  • First point of contact for Sydney Metro teams and contractors for matters relating to WSA works
  • Leads on commercial assessments and correspondence relating to the administration of the WSA Co and Sydney Metro interface deed
  • Advises WSA Co and internal teams on contractual obligations relative to interface deeds, developed from a detailed understanding of respective deeds, contracts and construction licences
  • Understands and ensures the WSA main works contractors incorporate the key requirements of the interface deed into WSA's works
  • Supervision of direct reports and matrix reports within the rail interface team, including; field engineer, interface engineer as well as environmental, planning and document control support.
  • Leads on coordination with WSA Package Managers and Field Engineers to identify and resolve Sydney Metro construction and access related interfaces and issues
  • Leads on coordination with WSA Package Managers, Package Engineering Leads to identify and resolve Sydney Metro design and assurance related interfaces and issues
  • Manage the established design review process for Sydney Metro technical submissions by WSA organisation and Main Works Contractors/Technical Service Providers
  • Scopes and executes agreements for works to be undertaken by Sydney Metro and behalf of WSA, including funding approvals.
  • Oversight of environmental and planning permits and approvals as they relate to Sydney Metro works, in close coordination with environmental teams
  • Leads on the development of operation and maintenance agreements relative to an operating railway within an airport environment.
  • Facilitate and chair regular coordination meetings with Sydney Metro, Commonwealth of Australia and other external stakeholder teams.
  • Support WSA estimating services provider in periodic review of Sydney Metro related interface costs
  • Producing regular Sydney Metro interface management status reports
  • Attendance at WSA management/progress meetings

Skills and Experience

  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills and able to interact closely with client representatives and contractors while maintaining necessary levels of commercial awareness.
  • Selfstarter with strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong general infrastructure industry experience, preferably including rail and/or aviation projects, including onsite technical and practical knowledge.
  • Experience managing a team across multidiscipline project lifecycles including design, construction and handover
  • Experience of using general PC basic software packages, e.g., MS Office, etc.
  • Minimum of Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or management discipline.
