This position is in Commercial Events and sits within the broader Venues and Events team.


The Commercial Events team is responsible for fee-for-service conferences, professional event support across other areas of the university and external hire of university facilities.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Project management and delivery of lowmedium risk events as directed by the Manager, Events in accordance with the annual corporate and commercial events calendar (including contracting venue/suppliers, undertaking risk assessments and contractor inductions, operational requirements, and liaising with highlevel visitors).
  • Ensuring compliance with University policies, contractual obligations and legal requirements such as the Liquor Licensing Act, Food Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety Act) undertaking risk assessments and contractor inductions.
  • Assisting in the administration and operational duties associated with commercial venue hire at Deakin University's facilities.
  • Providing support and advice in the coordination of fee for service events including conferencing and faculty/divisional events, working with the Manager, Events and relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing advice and guidance to other areas of the University in relation to University protocol, policies, procedures and logístical requirements for managing and delivering internal and external events, ensuring the University's brand and profiling objectives are maintained.
  • Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.

To be successful, you'll have:

  • An undergraduate qualification in event management/public relations/marketing or related field, or a combination of relevant experience and knowledge, education and/or training in event management.
  • Demonstrated highlevel organisational, event/project, administration, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated highlevel of skills and professionalism (including accuracy and formatting) in documentation development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) including negotiation, presentation and customer relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, and collaboratively under the guidance of the Manager, Events to achieve project timelines and objectives.
  • Experience working with online event management tools and/or a CRM database.
  • Experience working with online web interfaces and web management.
