Canberra, ACT, Australia Department of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources Full time
Canberra

  • Applications close 26 March

About the Department:

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources and our broader portfolio are integral to the Australian Government's economic agenda.

Our purpose is to help the government build a better future for all Australians through enabling a productive, resilient and sustainable economy, enriched by science and technology.

We do this by:

  • Growing innovative & competitive businesses, industries and regions
  • Investing in science and technology
  • Strengthening the resources sector.

About the team:

Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre is a division of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR).

Our vision is of a better future for all Australians through engagement with science, technology and innovation, and our mission is to excite and motivate people through inspirational learning experiences.

Our teams work nationwide to deliver diverse programs, exhibitions and experiences.

The National Alliances section within the Science and Learning branch contributes to Questacon's mission and is responsible for three national program streams: National Science Week, Inspiring Australia and Travelling Exhibitions.

The section has significant engagement and connections with external organisations and networks throughout government and the Australian science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors, supporting wide community STEM engagement and enabling two-way value creation through a strongly collaborative approach.

The section contributes to national and local initiatives, consults with stakeholders, identifies and acts on opportunities to maximise program outcomes, and contributes to inter-divisional information sharing and alignment of activities across DISR's STEM portfolios.

The team works closely with Questacon and departmental program, policy, grant management and communication specialists to inform the development, design and delivery of programs, and share insights relevant to community and sector engagement.

The opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate, energic and highly motivated person to join our team to help us build and leverage Australia's science capability to encourage community-wide participation in STEM.

National Science Week is a long-running flagship program aimed at promoting and celebrating STEM across Australia, enabled by support and activity from a diverse stakeholder base working at all levels of the Australian STEM ecosystem.

As the National Manager for National Science Week, you will play a pivotal role on behalf of division, the department and the wider community in ensuring the successful delivery and growth of National Science Week each year.

You will have lead responsibility for coordinating critical inputs and engaging key services and stakeholders, including the Minister, Department and Questacon, to ensure the annual delivery of activities across all states and territories.

As an EL1 manager, you will be responsible for whole-of-division and whole of portfolio coordination and managing a diverse range of supplier and stakeholder relationships.

You will be required to maintain and develop the tools, assets and relationships that underpin the effective delivery of National Science Week; provide evidence-based insights and advice on strategic development of the program, ensuring National Science Week is contemporary and responsive to changing community and government expectations over time.

You will be an important member of our organisation's diverse leadership team, working collaboratively alongside other Executive-level leaders to achieve our business and strategic objectives.

What's in it for you?:

As a creative, collaborative leader you will build on the current success of National Science Week to help shape and drive the future of one of Australia's most well-loved, longest running and most diverse festivals.

With a focus on engaging new audiences and building partnerships to expand access and increase inclusion and participation, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible difference and evaluate impact across the Australian community.

In this role you will have significant delivery and strategic responsibilities supported by a strong leadership team and professional learning opportunities.

You will have the ability to connect and leverage the capability of distributed teams including the extraordinary array of volunteers, event organisers, partner organisations, suppliers, sponsors and influencers who help make National Science Week possible.

In joining our team, you will join a highly engaged national workforce in building connections and supporting networks to raise the awareness, reach and impact of National Science Week and other STEM engagement activities.

- have an active interest in, and knowledge of STEM engagement.
- have a track record of enabling community participation through public-facing programs.
