Why your role matters


The Student Success Officer at Nura Gili Centre for Indigenous Programs plays a pivotal role within the Student Success team.

Working collaboratively with other team members, this role will assist Indigenous undergraduate, postgraduate, and HDR students in reaching their full potential.

The Student Success Officer will focus is on ensuring a smooth transition and positive and successful student experience at UNSW.

This role delivers high-quality engagement, opportunities, and services through various channels, tailored specifically for Indigenous students.

Additionally, they maintain a broad range of knowledge and expertise across student services, providing personalised and cultural assistance to help students thrive throughout their university journey.


Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Proactively manage a wide range of inquiries, such as timetabling, class registration, degree planning, accommodation, Centrelink
  • Abstudy, scholarships, employability, learning support, and special considerations.
  • Prioritising the student's capacities and interests, aiming to enhance their overall student experience and success.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining an inclusive and culturally enriching study environment for Indigenous students by organising workshops, events, and activities that educate and celebrate Indigenous cultural heritage.
  • Collaborating closely with Indigenous staff, community members, and elders to enhance the overall educational and cultural journey to help foster a strong sense of community and belonging for all Indigenous students.
This role requires occasional weekend and after-hour work in regional, remote and interstate as required.

About You:

  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Indigenous Australian cultures and contemporary issues. (Experience working with Indigenous students is desirable).
  • Ability to assess student capacity, develop plans to improve academic success and monitor ongoing progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detailed, accurate and up to date records
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently to deadlines, in a highvolume work environment, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and to work effectively within multidisciplinary team.
