Why Your Role Matters:

The Student Success Officer provides academic and pastoral support to Indigenous students currently enrolled at UNSW.

It is a key role in assisting Indigenous students achieve to their fullest potential as well as ensuring they have a positive and supportive student experience at UNSW.

It is driven by several Nura Gili policies including a skills-based approach to student learning for writing, research and studying.


Who You Are:

  • This is an Identified role and applicants must be an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person. Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required
  • A tertiary qualification or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Indigenous Australian cultures and contemporary issues. Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous students.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess student capacity, develop plans to improve academic success and monitor ongoing progress.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of academic and pastoral support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detailed, accurate and up to date records and use them effectively to identify and analyse trends and produce quality reports.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills. Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently to deadlines, in a highvolume work environment, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving skills and research skills including the use of library databases.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Show tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.
  • Ability and willingness to attend functions and events outside of normal working hours.
