About the opportunity


We are seeking to appoint an ongoing Lecturer in Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing in the School of Geography, Planning and Spatial Sciences is part of the College of Sciences and Engineering.


This role offers an exciting opportunity to conduct research in Tasmania's unique natural and built environments and to educate a new generation of geospatial scientists, equipping them with invaluable skills that are highly sought after.

Today's local and global challenges require innovative thinking, novel tools, and sophisticated data analytics for improved mapping and monitoring of our environment.

What you'll do:

  • Undertake highquality, scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching.
  • Develop new teaching materials or update existing materials as required, including materials for online learning.
  • Undertake highquality research of national and increasingly of international standing. Secure external competitive and other research funding, publish research findings, and contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally.
  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.

What we're looking for:

  • A PhD or equivalent in geospatial science.
  • Advanced skills and demonstrated experience in using Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing techniques.
  • An emerging (for recent graduates) or established record of research that has achieved national or international recognition.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver engaging, highquality teaching materials.
  • Strong evidence of independent work leading to timely and significant outcomes, team collaboration and maintaining productive professional and academic relationships.

Salary details


Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $147,083 comprising base salary within the range of $108,285 to $125,712 plus 17% superannuation.
