Ballarat Clarendon College's Yuulong Campus is different by design.
Situated on a hilltop overlooking the Southern Ocean on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Yuulong presents a unique opportunity for teachers to work with students as they develop their identity and their ability to manage themselves at both a practical and emotional level.
As a Residential Assistant at Yuulong, you will guide student learning as they spend 8 weeks away from the structures, routines and influences that they have become accustomed to.
You will work to engage and encourage students to reach outside their current level of comfort and expand their sense of what is possible.
Life and learning at Yuulong focuses on identity, self-management and relationships. Development happens through every interaction, every day with every student. At Yuulong, the most challenging experiences are where the greatest progress in these areas can occur.Staff
Yuulong staff are provided generous conditions, including accommodation either at the Yuulong campus or on nearby properties.
Residential Assistance participate in hiking and camping and deliver a unique curriculum focusing on Sustainable Communities, Connections, Outdoor Education and Health and Physical Education.
Sustainable Communities
These sessions provide a practical experience, where students develop their understanding of what living in a functional community looks like.
Connections
These sessions create a space for students to make connections between their experiences and the psychoeducation tools they have been taught.
There are opportunities for students to engage with other members of the Yuulong community and be able to reflect on their contributions.
Outdoor Education
Activities on Yuulong include bushwalking, surfing and snorkeling. Students complete an introductory 4-day hike followed by the 8-day extended journey.

Health and Physical Education
The Yuulong program focuses upon the development of healthy life-long habits. Students explore their physical, social, emotional and mental health.
Selection criteria
- Experience and knowledge of pastoral care and child safety standards.
- Qualifications or experience in Outdoor Education risk management including hazard identification, risk assessment and implementation of risk treatment controls.
- Experience in the outdoors across a range of different disciplines
- Capacity to work in a high-performing team, including a willingness to seek and respond to feedback and ability to communicate effectively to maintain respectful relationships with students, staff, parents and groups from the wider community.
Knowledge, skill and qualification requirement
- Formal qualifications in Outdoor Education/Recreation
- Demonstrated commitment to child safety.
- Willingness to learn, be resilient and agile.
- Confidence and genuine interest in extending and enriching student relationships and learning
- Formal qualifications or willingness to obtain:
- Wilderness First Aid
- Light/Medium bus driving licence
- Surf Coach or Snorkel guide qualification.
