Brisbane, Queensland, Australia OnTalent Full time
  • Dynamic leadership role
  • Delivering quality specialist court support programs
  • Brisbane based.

The Courts Innovation Program (CIP) within the Magistrates Courts Service (MCS), manages and supports innovative courts programs to support Queensland's independent courts which are a crucial and fundamental cornerstone of civil society.

CIP programs include the specialist Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) courts, the Queensland Drug and Alcohol Court (QDAC), Court Link and Murri Court. CIP also manages programs such as the Community Justice Group Grant program, that supports First Nations people who have contact with the justice system.

The Senior Director CIP is responsible for developing strategies and driving reforms that reflect a therapeutic jurisprudence approach, address the overrepresentation of First Nations people in the justice system, and improve the justice system response to DFV.

As Senior Director CIP, you will:

  • Deliver public value through championing and leading CIP to drive strategic, cultural and system change in alignment with government priorities, departmental objectives, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve and cultivate excellence in CIP program delivery.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning and practices (including finance and human resources) across CIP.
  • Create and maintain a cohesive, high performing CIP team, creating strong working relationships, empowering, and coaching others, encouraging a multidisciplinary team approach and displaying leadership that supports a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive and cultivate cultural, DFV and therapeutic jurisprudence capability across the team and in the operation of CIP programs.
  • Develop, implement and manage innovative court programs which seek to address the underlying causes of offending and the overrepresentation of First Nations people in the justice system with a focus on evidence-based approaches and continuous improvement.

The role reports to the Executive Director, MCS and works collaboratively with the Chief Magistrate, Deputy Chief Magistrates, and magistrates. As such, this position requires an understanding of the separation of powers and the unique judicial environment within which the MCS operates. The role also works collaboratively with key partner agencies both within and external to government.

Sitting within MCS, CIP consists of over 90 staff throughout Queensland and is comprised of four areas:
