About the role:


The Planning Enforcement team at Merri-bek is looking for a someone to join our team of six enforcement officers, to backfill maternity leave through to December 2023.


You will be responsible for investigating complaints about land use and development, managing complex planning investigations to ensure compliance with the Planning Scheme and Planning Permits.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including our Urban Planning, Environmental Health and Building Services units to achieve sustainable built form and land use outcomes for the Merri-bek community.


Skills and experience require to perform the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Planning or related field with relevant experience in an enforcement role, or lesser formal qualification with substantial relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate a range of planning enforcement matters
  • Demonstrated ability to use informal dispute resolution processes and tools to achieve compliance as a first step before the use of formal enforcement proceedings
  • Experience with formal dispute resolution processes and tools including formal enforcement at the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal and Magistrates' Court.
  • Indepth knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
