As a Marine Officer Grade 3 you will engage with our stakeholders and seek to foster an attitude of safe boating, assisting with the provisions of services that will allow our clients to enjoy Queensland's waterways in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.


You will assist stakeholders and users of Queensland waterways by facilitating educational activities as well as compliance and legislative requirements that enhance the safe and environmentally friendly use of recreational and commercial crafts, taking a project management and leadership role in the provision of marine infrastructure and maintenance works, investigation, monitoring and auditing.


Accountabilities include:

  • Work in partnership with stakeholders to embed safety and sustainability awareness, including the environment.
  • Attend marine pollution preparedness and response training, participate in, and deliver marine pollution exercises. Assume a leadership role in the event of a pollution incident response.
  • Schedule, prepare, conduct and finalise audits for training providers (Boatsafe) and internal service delivery and make recommendations or directives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Monitor, review and recommend further action relating to competency assessmentbased processes
  • Monitor the condition and operation of vessels against legislative requirements to achieve positive safety and environmental outcomes.
  • Locally administer regulatory interventions.
  • Undertake comprehensive investigations with regard to noncompliance under the relevant legislation.
  • Provide appropriate nautical, legislative and technical advice to internal and external stakeholders and provide input or advice into the preparation of draft ministerial correspondence.
  • Develop opportunities to engage with stakeholders.
  • Acquire, provide and maintain assets and infrastructure to ensure services are delivered in an efficient manner.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of contracts and projects, as directed by the Area Manager.
  • Assist in training, mentoring and coaching of staff.
This role reports to the Area Manager.

Highly desirable requirements:


A Master less than 24m NC or Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 valid licence (certificate of competency) or higher, or other educational or maritime qualifications and/or experience which, in the opinion of the General Manager, Maritime Safety Queensland, are deemed suitable.
