First Nation Pathways Program Traineeship - Port Bonython

Programmed Training Services in partnership with Santos are working to create job opportunities for people who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

These opportunities can act as a pathway into our Operations and Maintenance Apprenticeships and Production Operations Traineeship programs, providing an exciting career in the energy sector.

The 12-month traineeships comprise of training, coaching and skills development which includes:

  • Safety Knowledge.
  • Teamwork.
  • Exposure to and working with mechanical, production operators and electrical teams.
  • Handson skills.

To be successful in the role, you will need to have:

  • A resident of Whyalla or the local area
  • Ability to work flexible hours including rosters up to 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to complete a Certificate II in Engineering, Electrotechnology or Process Plant Operations
  • Completion of year 10 (highly desirable).
  • A valid Driver Licence (or ability to acquire licence by the completion of the program).
  • Genuine desire to build a career in Oil & Gas


Working across one of Santos' assets in Port Bonython, regional South Australia, the traineeships will be a mix of hands-on practical experience and classroom lessons.


The positions are open to those who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander school leavers wanting to start a career in oil and gas to mature-aged people looking to try something new.
