About the program 

Based on the Alphacrucis Teaching Hub Model, the department is launching a school-based traineeship pathway for the Riverina Teaching Hub Program. The program enables students going into year 10 or 11 in 2024 to complete a school-based traineeship towards a career in education.

Up to 20 positions are available to support local people in the Riverina to complete their Certificate III in School Based Education Support commencing in Term 1 of 2024

Students will have the opportunity to study a Certificate III in School Based Education Support with Alphacrucis University College, while working towards their High School Certificate (HSC). Partnered with local NSW primary schools, students will undertake paid part-time work as a trainee supporting teachers in and out of the classroom one day per week. Studying with Alphacrucis University College

The Certificate III in School Based Education Support is delivered by Alphacrucis University College using a virtual delivery mode. This enables students to complete their studies from their high school campus during school hours or remotely, removing the travel requirement for students to attend a tertiary campus.

Upon entry in the program, all students will have a personalised training plan created to capture their school, study, and workplace hour commitments. This resource will be shared between the participant, their parent/carer, high school, and Alphacrucis University College.

Studying in a School Based Traineeship

The school-based traineeship enables Year 10 and Year 11 students to reduce their subject load to four (minimum) subjects while studying the certificate and working as a trainee in a local NSW public school one day per week.

Pathway into a career in education

With education support and classroom experience gained in studying the Certificate III in School Based Education Support, students will develop a strong foundation to continue into a career in education or towards becoming a teacher.

The nationally recognised Certificate III in School Based Education Support also grants students an alternate entry into initial teacher education degrees within several universities across NSW.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Be subject to a Probity Check including a if you're aged over 18. Be entering year 10 or 11 in 2024, in a participating high school. Be willing to undertake a school-based traineeship, working one day per week in a local NSW public primary school as a paid trainee. Be willing and intend to complete a Certificate III in School Based Education Support through Alphacrucis University College and meet their entry requirements. Begin your Certificate III in Term 1 of 2024 and complete your studies 31 December 2025.
