About the team:


People Branch sits within the department's Enabling and Business Services Group and is responsible for strategic and operational focussed HR advice and services to support business areas to meet their workforce needs.


We are committed to exceeding the expectations of our department and ensuring that the work we do adapts to our continually evolving workforce, the work of the department and of the broader Australian Public Service.


The opportunity
Our Diversity and Inclusion team has a number of vacancies within the team at the Executive Level 1 Classification.

Successful applicants will help to lead the implementation of the department's stretch RAP and work to implement internal strategies and action plans while supporting Commonwealth diversity and inclusion strategies.

What you will do:

As an Assistant Manager in the Diversity and Inclusion team, you will help to:

  • lead a small team to deliver on a diverse range of projects and initiatives that advance reconciliation and inclusion within the department.
- run employment activities such as bulk recruitment rounds.
- deliver professional development initiatives such as mentoring programs and career development.
- lead the delivery of diversity and inclusion events.
- identify and act on opportunities to contribute to Closing the Gap.
- increase the cultural competency of our workforce.
- build and sustain effective relationships both internally and with external stakeholders, including our Employee Networks and Champions, our RAP Steering Committee and other APS agencies.
- develop junior employees through identifying development opportunities, providing mentoring and coaching and giving effective feedback.
- assist with preparing briefing materials for various forums such as, reports, committee papers and senior leader correspondence.
- contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the branch and the department's corporate agenda.
