How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne:The Community and City Services Division puts people, families and community at the forefront of our work. This is a rare (12 month contracted) opportunity to lead the Waterways team.

The Waterways team manages 7km of iconic waterfront and two marinas in the Birrarung (Yarra River) and Victoria Harbour, Docklands.


The Waterways Program manager will drive a constructive working culture and bring experience in operations and asset management to support the team in day-to-day marina management.


You will be the voice of the waterways, utilising your well-developed project management and stakeholder engagement skills in the delivery of key projects and strategic plans, as well as City of Melbourne's waterways infrastructure in an operational capacity.


Selection Criteria:

All CoM employees will demonstrate an ability to articulate and demonstrate benefits of positive culture and values.

  • Leadership capability including leading by example and consistently working towards a constructive culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and maintain business plans and associated budgetary and financial management requirements
  • Highly developed organisational skills, including a close attention to detail and the ability to act with initiative to design solutions to manage branch priorities.

In addition, the Waterways Program Manager will require:

  • Experience in planning, development and operational role
  • Marine Industry is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent relationship management skills, including the ability to work in a dynamic team environment and collaboratively across multidisciplinary groups
- including; marina customers and operators, internal and external Management, Property Developers, City and State Government representatives and Councillors

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills, political astuteness and the ability to use discretion and judgment in a complex business and political environment
