About the team

The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one need face cancer alone. This Division assists people as they navigate the cancer journey, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.

The Client Experience team provides support to people affected by cancer, ensuring their practical, legal and financial needs are met throughout their cancer trajectory. The services offered include, but are not limited to, practical support including accommodation, home help, transport to treatment and the provision of free legal, workplace and financial support and referrals to psychosocial support. These services aim to meet the legal, financial and practical needs of people affected by cancer and contribute to their well-being by reducing stress and improving their quality of life.

About the role:

The Team Leader, Practical Support Services is a key leader in the Client Experience team, overseeing the delivery of our practical support services to people affected by cancer including our accommodation, home help and transport to treatment services. The Team Leader will work closely with service delivery teams across Cancer Information and Support to ensure we offer high quality, integrated and timely support to patients and carers.

The Team Leader will identify opportunities for continuous improvement, develop strategies to improve the overall client experience, streamline processes and provide day-to-day management of a team of coordinators, administrators and volunteers. The Team Leader will play a hands-on role delivering services to clients on a day-to-day basis as needed.

Key responsibilities of the role:

The key purpose of the Team Leader, Practical Support Services is to oversee the effective and seamless delivery of CCNSW's practical support services via a phone-based team, including but not limited to:

  • Accommodation for people travelling for treatment
  • Transport to Treatment
  • Home Help services.

The Team Leader will ensure that all services operate to provide greatest impact to those in greatest need, ensure adherence to service scope and eligibility requirements, and ensure services are delivered efficiently and effectively.

The role will manage and coordinate a team, providing ongoing support, training and debriefing opportunities, along with managing rosters and workflow. The Team Leader will act as an escalation point for complex stakeholder and technical issues and build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with service stakeholders.

The Team Leader will work with the Manager, Client Experience to support with stakeholder reporting, managing service budgets, supporting with review and evaluation of services and driving promotion of services.

About you

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in business/health/community/project management or related field.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing and engaged client-facing employees who work both in-office and remotely.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage service delivery operations, workflows and rostering of staff/volunteers.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and work in a collaborative, cross functional way with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, champion, and adapt to change.
  • Experience working with clients who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or have high levels of distress, and ability to maintain strong professional boundaries.
  • Experience in process optimisation and a passion for delivering high quality client experiences and client satisfaction.
  • High level written and oral communication skills, including high level presentation skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in implementing, monitoring and improving support services for disadvantaged clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and manage budgetary requirements
  • An understanding of the needs of people affected by cancer and the oncology health setting and experience working with people affected by cancer or providing support services to vulnerable clients.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit or community-based organisation
