About us

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.

The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) within MCV provides financial assistance to victims of crime committed in Victoria.

VOCAT aims to assist victims of crime in their recovery by providing an accessible and empathetic service for those who require financial support.

VOCAT is going through an exciting period of change, with centralisation of VOCAT operations statewide due to kick off in January 2023.

About the role
As a result of centralisation, the Melbourne VOCAT team is growing.

This role will work alongside one other Listings Registrar to manage state-wide VOCAT hearings including coordinating and scheduling, arranging technology requirements, summonsing witnesses and ensuring orders are accurate.

About you

The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with a number of stakeholders including the judiciary and legal practitioners, as well as members of the public.

An understanding of the VOCAT jurisdiction and the powers and functions of a registrar of the Tribunal are fundamental to the role, as is an understanding of listing and case management practices and procedures within the courts and tribunals environment
