**The Planning, Building and Laws portfolio aligns urban planning policy with urban planning delivery and incorporates Banyule's Statutory Planning Team including subdivision and planning enforcement. The portfolio also includes Building Services which includes Council's Municipal Building Surveyor and enforcement functions as well a commercial Building Permit Service (Banyule BPi) and Laws which oversees implementation of Council's Local Law No.1, Domestic Animals legislation, Road Safety legislation and Fire Prevention program across the municipality.

The role:

Ensure the prosperity, health and safety of the urban forest and arboricultural assets throughout the municipality by providing advice, reports and recommendations as directed and upon inspection in response to planning matters
:

To act as a facilitator to achieve an efficient development approvals process and to provide guidance and assistance to the parties involved
:

Assess and advise Council on statutory planning proposals for tree removal/tree pruning and the development and use of land in Banyule which may impact on trees and other arboricultural assets.

Skills, experience and certificates:

-
AQF Level 5 or above, Diploma of Horticulture (Arboriculture) and/or equivalent experience
:

-
A sound understanding of the vegetation protection provisions of the Banyule Planning Scheme, including provisions in relation to enforcement of the Scheme and the Act
:

-
An ability to display empathy and self-awareness and work with others to achieve a mutually agreeable outcome
:

-
Previous experience in delivering high quality fast paced service to diverse customers
:

A high level of professional and personal integrity
:

-
A high level of proficiency in the Microsoft office suite and industry related software
:

-
Proven experience working accurately and efficiently in the maintenance of records
:

-
A current Drivers Licence.
