Ethical Standards Command comprises an Internal Investigations Group (IIG), State Case Management Unit (SCMU) and the Integrity and Performance Group (IPG).

Itspurpose is to protect the high standards of integrity and professionalism necessary to maintain the trust and support of our community.

Ethical Standards Command is a multi-faceted unit in that it has a responsibility to investigate and oversee investigations ranging from breaches of discipline to serious criminal offences (IIG), as well as a preventative and compliance driven role through education, operational reviews and inspections strategies (IPG).

It is a dynamic and diverse unit with strong partnerships with Crime and Corruption Commission, State Coroner and internally with Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.


The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Develop appropriate strategies to ensure that assessed complaints are comprehensive and appropriate classification, notification, allegations and Ca PE category are applied.
  • Co-design processes for the monitoring and evaluation of standards of discipline within the Service and participate in the development of strategic, innovative and proactive policies to enhance the professionalism of members of the Service.
  • Supervise and manage Assessment Officers by providing day-to-day advice, guidance and support in the handling of less difficult complaints.
  • Provide a high level of service, technical expertise and advice for through the presentation of assessed complaints to the Complaints Assessment Committee.
  • Identify, manage and implement business improvement processes to enhance the organisational response to the complaints assessment process.
  • Liaise, consult and negotiate with members of the Queensland Police Service, the legal profession, government agencies towards the establishment of effective working relationships and achievement of desired outcomes to policing of complaints assessment processes.
  • Identify issues and potential risks regarding complaint and discipline matters and provide advice to Staff Member Discipline Team, Professional Practice Managers, Case Officers and the State Coordinator.
  • Effectively provide advice to complainants on outcomes of assessment decisions, demonstrating professional, empathetic, effective complaint handling practices in accordance with internal policy and procedures.
