: Do you want to work with Events ACT to deliver safe and enjoyable events including, but not limited to Floriade, The Enlighten Festival, and the Canberra Balloon Spectacular for the Canberra community? Events ACT has a full-time, permanent opportunity for a hands-on WHS professional.We are looking for someone who will enjoy being on site at our events supporting and educating our stakeholders to ensure adherence with relevant safety legislation. There is a lot of stakeholder engagement required in this role so the ability to communicate with a wide range of workers, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders professionally and respectfully is critical.
There is also administrative work involved including drafting (with support from the WHS Coordinator) WHS risk assessments (including psychosocial risks assessments), emergency management plans, WHS plans and other safety related documentation so high-level organisational skills, attention to detail and a solid understanding of the Microsoft office suite of products and the ability to quickly learn other software (e.g. SafetyCulture) is important. This should be coupled with professional written and verbal communication skills as they apply in a government context.
The ideal candidate will have a certificate IV in WHS at a minimum and strong understanding of WHS legislation as it applies to the types of contractors we regularly engage with (for example, temporary structure/marquee installation, sound, and lighting, electrical, plumbing and amusement rides to name a few). Understanding and interpretation of WHS legislation in an office environment is also required.
Flexible working arrangements are available (and encouraged), however during periods of event delivery the expectation is that the WHS Officer is available to be on site regularly to undertake site inspections, contractor verifications etc and to generally be present to provide safety advice and support the event delivery team. We are a close-knit team who all chip in when required to achieve our goals so being a team player is essential.

Eligibility/Other requirements:
Certificate IV or higher in WHS is required. Class C Driver’s Licence is required. Experience in WHS for large scale events, festivals or in the construction industry is desirable. A qualification or experience with project management (or a willingness to undertake) is desirable. First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain). White Card - Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain; Ability to flexible work hours during event delivery periods including outside core business hours, nights, weekends, and public holidays.Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
